Wheelersburg HS Key Club Holds Baby Wipe Drive for MR/DD

During the week of February 14-18, the Wheelersburg High School Key Club sponsored a drive to collect baby wipes for Scioto County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MR/DD) programs. Each 7th period class at the high school was challenged to bring in baby wipes. The classes bringing in the most wipes are to be rewarded with an ice cream sundae party. The winning classes were Mrs. Williams’ and Mr. Lovenguth’s. In all, 25,448 baby wipes were collected.

The Scioto County MR/DD program is having serious funding shortfalls.  In recent budget analyses, disposable wipes were pinpointed as costly, but necessary.  When approached, the WHS Key Club, under the leadership of co-advisors Ellen Bell and Dana Whitt, jumped at chance to help and turned the drive into a school-wide event.

“We’re just overwhelmed by the response,” said Scioto MR/DD Interim Executive Director Brenda Benson.  “We want the Key Club and the staff, students and families of Wheelersburg High School to know how much we appreciate their efforts. This kind of community support means so much.”  The wipes are being distributed to all three of the Scioto MR/DD buildings, including The Carousel Preschool, Vern Riffe School and the adult programs that are centered in the STAR Workshop building.

The Key Club programs would like to thank the student body for supporting this very successful drive.
